My First Tesla Drive: Now I Get It!
I knew Teslas had been around for years. I saw them everywhere, knew plenty of people owned them, and had heard all the excitement. But I was always a little skeptical. Could driving one really be that different?
Then I finally sat in one and took it for a drive. Actually, it drove me. AMAZING!
There’s a big difference between hearing someone describe a technology and experiencing it yourself. I could read about electric cars, watch demonstrations, and listen to enthusiastic owners all day. None of that had the same impact as being in the driver’s seat.
What shocked me most was how quickly my skepticism turned into fascination. Suddenly, this wasn’t another car passing me on the road. I was experiencing something that made me rethink what I expected a car to do.
And the driving assistance? That was the moment that really got my attention. Feeling the car handle parts of the driving was remarkable. Of course, assistance still means the person behind the wheel needs to remain attentive and responsible. But watching technology take such an active role made the experience feel extraordinary.
As The Gadget Professor, I’m always interested in technology that changes everyday experiences. Sometimes a gadget adds convenience. Sometimes it solves a small problem. And sometimes it makes you sit back and say, “Wow—now I understand what everyone has been talking about!”
That was my Tesla moment.
One drive doesn’t answer every question about owning an electric vehicle. Charging, cost, and how a car fits your daily routine still matter. But it certainly answered my question about whether there was something special worth experiencing.
I went in skeptical. I came away impressed, surprised, and excited.

Memory and Hard Drive Prices Are Getting Outrageous
Upgrading your computer shouldn’t feel like buying a luxury item. Yet the rising cost of RAM, solid-state drives, and hard drives is turning routine purchases into budget decisions. For anyone storing family photos, editing video, or simply keeping an older computer useful, these increases are frustrating.
What’s driving the squeeze? Artificial intelligence and enormous data centers are a major part of the story. Memory manufacturers are prioritizing profitable server products, leaving tighter supplies for other uses. TrendForce projects that conventional DRAM contract prices will rise another 10–15% in the fourth quarter of 2026, with NAND flash—the storage chips inside SSDs—climbing 15–20%. Traditional spinning hard drives face their own supply constraints. They don’t use NAND flash to store your files, but cloud companies need vast quantities of high-capacity disks. In April, Seagate said its nearline production capacity was almost fully allocated through calendar 2027. That illustrates how heavily large customers have committed future supply. The result is an unpleasant reversal of what consumers came to expect: more memory and storage for less money. Today, even a basic upgrade can demand a second look at the price tag.
My advice: compare price histories, check the cost per terabyte, and buy the capacity you actually need. A “sale” sticker means little without knowing the previous price. Avoid panic buying, but don’t postpone replacing a failing drive or protecting irreplaceable files while waiting for a bargain.
The technology may be impressive, but everyday buyers still deserve affordable upgrades. Keeping our computers running and our memories backed up shouldn’t break the bank.

DJI Neo 2: Big Fun, Small Drone, Outstanding Value
I own 4 drones, and the DJI Neo 2 is by far the best bang for the buck and the fastest and easiest drone to fly. For me, its combination of convenience, capability, and sheer fun makes it stand out.
The appeal starts with simplicity. Palm takeoff and landing, gesture control, and automatic subject tracking make capturing yourself easier without juggling a traditional controller. Its compact design and full-coverage propeller guards also make it an appealing choice for beginners and anyone who wants a drone they can easily bring along. DJI product details
The camera gives this little drone plenty of creative potential. It records 4K video at up to 60 frames per second, with a two-axis gimbal helping steady the picture. There are practical limits. DJI rates flight time at up to 19 minutes under test conditions, so a spare battery is a sensible addition.
